Sammiches were delish! I had the lunch special which included the salad bar and soup. Salad bar was small but nice. Made from scratch items I believe. Blue cheese dressing and greens were solid. They had cottage cheese, German potato salad, and slaw, all good.

Our first time today. Great service from a very pleasant young man. Told him how to make a "Dirty Lemonade" and a pizza sandwich using french bread. Our sandwiches were extremely good as was the cole slaw and fresh fruit side. Very good salad and fruit. We were very pleased and will be back.

I adore Fat Sam's! Every time I go there, the food is consistently fabulous. Vegetarian options are all wonderful. The potato salad is great, and I love that you have the option of fresh fruit. I recently brought my brother, who is from San Diego, to Fat Sam's. He has a large appetite, and was very impressed by the portion sizes and the quality of the food, which to me says a lot, given the variety of options that he has available to him in California. Absolutely do not miss out on this great little bistro!

We stopped here on a long trip and it was ok. The service was good. The bathroom was clean, although the floor upstairs is pretty slanty. Ha. We started with the nachos which I do not recommend. The cheese tastes like it was the runoff from yesterday's macaroni and cheese. My sandwich, the knuckle sandwich, was good. I liked it. The pastrami was yummy and it was perfectly toasted. My husband got a blt and he liked it. They both came with chips and a pickle. The salad bar didn't look too appetizing so we skipped it. I'll probably try a new place if I'm ever back in town. But our server was very nice!

Good food. Did not know this restaurant existed until someone suggested it. Pleasant service. Don't know pricing, but I'm sure it was decent. A little dark and patio would be nice. But overall, good service and good food make up for it. Recommend! Maybe try more advertising

The lunch buffet is very good and reasonably priced. The beer cheese soup was kind of gross, but the potato salad was good, the fruit was nice and fresh and the salad greens were very good. The veggie pannini was delicious. Don't get a drink though, a Pepsi costs $2.25

Every sandwich is a fat kids dream (not necessarily unhealthy just...you want to eat another immediately). Soups are good. Prices are fair. Just go. You'll see. It's delicious. Chef knows his biz.

Couldn't even order a sandwich they didn't have anything posted about a delivery min. and I don't need to order more than one sandwich for myself for lunch. The woman on the phone was rude to begin with. When I replied with something she took forever to respond or just didn't. The music in the background on the phone was annoying and it made it hard to hear her. Overall, not impressed and disappointed. The menu looked good, but if I am going to get crappy service on the phone I won't even consider going to the restaurant because it will probably be the same or worse there.

This is a gem. We're not from LaCrosse and were looking for a decent lunch place that was open on Sunday, happened across the reviews here and took the chance. All of us are so glad we did. The menu is mostly sandwiches, but what a selection! The portions were ample and tasty, veggies fresh, and our server was very friendly and helpful. The salad bar looked minimal, but, really, what more do you need than a fruit salad option, a nice mixed salad and choice of dressings, and a few "alternative" salads - in this case a red potato salad and a zingy cole slaw (jalapeños are the secret ingredient, but it's Midwest spicy, not southwest!). The soup options both were tempting, but those had to wait til the next visit. There's a great kid's menu - not your typical chicken nuggets and fries. I suspect the owner gets his son's input here! The "lil Elvis" is for the particularly adventurous :) The only quibble I had was that the sides of chips and pickle weren't as inspired as the sandwiches themselves. This one's definitely a "keeper" - we'll be stopping back the next time we're through.

Wonderful gem of a sandwich shop in La Crosse's downtown area. Highly recommended! Nothing else quite like it in LAX.

My husband and I have eaten here a few times now, and the sandwiches are very satisfying. I ordered the Knuckle Sandwich both times because it was so good the first time! Their kettle chips are also delicious, and they have a good beer selection (including one of my favorite beers - Old Rasputin Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing).

I got lucky at Fat Sams! (Did that get your attention? :) I am staying in nearby West Salem for just a couple of days, in from Chicago, and I just showed up downtown, parked the car, and walked around looking for food. Fat Sams was all I saw, and as I got up close I saw they had a nice lunchtime special which fit my budget and my needs just right. Food is fresh and just-to-the-left-of-standard, and service is great. I left and was gone about 15 minutes before realizing I had left my prescription sunglasses there, so I quickly rushed back. My server handed them to me as soon as I opened the door. She knew I would be worried about them. I am happy that I ate here without any direction from a guide other than signage. I got lucky.

Writing this because there is not a lot of yelpers for LaCrosse apparently... Good choice for lunch if you are downtown. We had the Hoss and the Italian Beef- both were excellent!

Casual enough to pop in for a sandwich (try The Boss), but not so casual that you have to order standing up and wash your own dishes.

I guess that when I first went into Fat Sam's, I did not know what to expect. I was delighted that they had more than just fatty burgers and fries (with a name like that, it is something I had expected, but since it's new in town still wanted to try it out). They do have much more unique sandwiches and appetizers, but I got a vegetable panini every time I have been there--artichoke something I believe, I forget what it's called--but quite frankly have been disappointed each time. I eat meat again so i will probably try one of their meat sandwiches, but to me there is no really light or healthy option here other than the salad bar. That's totally fine, but other than the salad bar and the hummus plate from the appetizer menu, there aren't a lot of options for people trying to watch their figure. This is fine because I imagine that is not this business' mission statement, but I would like to see more lean options. I think it would help expand their customer base and improve business. Then again, I usually go during the evening, so the salad bar is done typically at that point. It seems like they have a creative kitchen/staff due to the delightfully delicious sounding soups and sandwiches (I hear their beer cheese is amazing) and it would be cool to see if they would be able to expand their menu to something a little beyond sandwiches and salads. They have a lot of potential to maybe try to whip up something new for experimental purposes at least. Regardless, it is a very nice, calming setting even when it's bustling busy (which it seems like it is on most days). Just not one of my top of choices to go to, that's all!

I have been here 6+ times since they opened. At first I was thinking - Great, does La Crosse really need another sandwich place, but Fat Sam's is different. Their menu has some unique sandwiches and its a great place for lunch. The service has always been friendly and fast. You are actually able to get in and out on your lunch hour. My favorite on the menu is the Chicken Salad - and in life, I actually don't even like chicken. The whole grain bread is super soft and the chicken salad is really tasty. After the first time I had it, I kept craving it, and ended up eating 3x in one week. I am also a huge fan of the Boss. I have also tried the Hoss and the Mother Earth - both were good as well. I would pass on the Veggie Panini and the Tuscan Melt - both were blah...... I think it was the focaccia - not good at all. Overall, this is a great lunch spot, with friendly staff and good food.

This was our first time in Fat Sam's - It's a small location on Main Street in Down town La Crosse. It has an inviting entrance that almost from the outside feels like it opens right onto the street. Once inside we were greeted by pleasant attentive staff and promptly given the specials. Food all arrived in a timely and quick manner and when we had to leave abruptly due to a prior engagement they were quick to accomodate. The menu includes under 1/2 a dozen appetizers and salads and about a dozen sandwiches. The kid's meal is not listed on the menu but seems a bit of an after thought including grilled cheese, ham and cheese, and peanut butter and jelly at $4.50 per plate. Having come on a friday we were pleasantly surprised that beer and appetizers featured a $1 and $2 discount respectively until 7pm. I'm not sure if this is a repeating arrangement but it was nice. We chose the special of Chips and Salsa at $4 for our opener. The chips were very standard $1 value bag variety but the Salsa itself was clearly freshly made in house and was decent. For those wondering it consisted of fresh chopped onions and diced tomatoes and had a somewhat sweet taste with mild heat. It was enjoyable but could do with a higher quality chip. For our main course I chose to share the Cubano with my son. This was the highlight of my evening and was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. It was a bit highly priced at $9 but I'd go again if just for this sandwich. The meat was high quality and the whole sandwich came out piping hot. The mustard was a somewhat creamy understated mustard which my son even slathered across his half. Each included a nice pickle spear. We chose to substitue our chips for the Sausage and Potato Soup for an extra $1.50. The soup was different than expected and while above average did not blow me away. It was somewhat like a vegetable soup with chunks of potato and sausage and a slight zip to the broth. My Wife chose a Mediterranean Club which had Turkey and Bacon and a chipotle sauce. She was underwhelmed but that may be because she enjoys simpler food. She chose to substitue her chips for the Potato salad. The potato salad was again enjoyable but not the standard type. It had a taste that reminded me the cucumber salad sold in cream sauce at your local restaurant deli. Finally my daughter ordered the Grilled cheese. Initially they mis-delivered ham and cheese but were prompt and agreeable when asked to replace it. The grilled cheese came with a large fruit bowl that looked to be of good quality. The sandwich itself featured what appeared to be processed cheese on otherwise good quality bread. Overall I have to recommend Fat Sam's. The service and Sandwiches are great and if not for some things that need refinement and seem to have been treated as afterthoughts I would give it a 5 star rating. All told our bill for 4 (with my son and I sharing) came in at $36.00. One final note is that the restaurant features a bathroom that is up stairwell in the back. It's well done and quaintly designed but is not by any means handicap accessible for those of you concerned about that sort of thing.
